Research specialisation

Newgate Research draws on a broad range of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies to design highly tailored research programs to deliver our clients the insights they need to make decisions and fine-tune their strategic direction, messages and other communications and engagement materials.
Clients regularly call on us for the following services:

Reputation research
Our services range from quick perceptions audits through to our proprietary Reputation Evaluation Program, NewREP. Our more sophisticated offering measures the health of an organisation’s reputation and what is driving opinions. It helps clients to prioritise actions to improve their reputation over time.

Rapid Response issues research
This is a core area of expertise, helping our clients get rapid insight into community reactions to an issue and the best way forward when it is most needed. We can often deploy focus groups with 24 hours’ notice and quantitative studies within 24-48 hours. Sometimes a quick answer is the best one in handling crises and reducing risk.

Newgate MessageLab
Many years of experience in testing messages have shaped Newgate’s MessageLab offering. This is our proprietary approach to identifying the messages that are most effective in shifting opinion amongst different audiences.

Employee research
We offer a broad range of employee research services, including our proprietary Employee Sentiment Program, NewgateESP, and Organisational Network Analysis. These offerings help organisations understand their performance and internal networks, improve leadership and communications effectiveness, and inform cultural change programs.

Infrastructure research
A significant proportion of our work involves research among communities and other stakeholders impacted by infrastructure projects – covering transport, resources, waste, energy, water, urban and regional renewal and property development.

Deliberative research
The Newgate Research team has been conducting deliberative forums for more than ten years. We specialise in a pragmatic style of deliberation conducted on a single evening with participants recruited to be broadly representative of the community of interest – and we also conduct projects that extend over longer time periods and multiple sessions.

Utility planning research
Our team has deep expertise in research and engagement for water and energy network utilities, particularly in relation to tariff structure and revenue planning. This includes research with the full spectrum of stakeholders, from customers, to affected communities, to the most senior and influential stakeholders.

Advanced data science
Our team includes some of Australia’s most experienced data scientists, alongside senior researchers who have a deep understanding of the art of quantitative research. We use specialist questionnaire and sample design approaches, along with advanced statistical techniques to find the most meaningful stories in the data.
