On Thursday 23rd April over 50 AMSRO leaders met at The Langham Hotel in Melbourne to celebrate 25 years of advancing the industry and review the changing landscape of market and social research.

Harold Mitchell AC, Entrepreneur, Founder Mitchell Communication Group
The son of a Stawell Sawmiller who never finished high school, Harold Mitchell started his career in advertising at 16 with just $10. He ended up starting his own media buying company, Mitchell Communication Group and becoming a million dollar media buyer. The Australian self-made millionaire spoke on his experiences and his success.

An astute observer of trends and a keen advocate for the future of the business, Bob is continually in the know and across who the movers and shakers are in our industry. Bob’s State of the Industry report (via Skype) provided an update on the mix of new generations, cultures and models in the marketplace, the critical leadership skills required in today’s evolving environment and who’s taking the lead with innovation and how.
Andrew Maher, HR Legal and partner, Lionel Appelboom of CIE Legal presented ‘Risk in your organisation -avoiding fiascos during disruptive times!’
What are the procurement and probity risks with government and private sector tenders? This presentation covered acceptable commercial practices, the implications if something goes wrong and strategies to manage risk and consequences.
Liz Moore, Director of Research Insights and Analytics, TELSTRA and President, Australian Market and Social Research Society (AMSRS)
A senior professional marketer who specialises in the use of Customer Insights to drive business profitability and advocacy Liz presented a client’s perspective with a focus on the value of big data, how to lead in an industry under constant change and meet the demands of stakeholders.
Charlie Offer, Partner, Ernst & Young
Cyber security is an increasing challenge in our world where disruptive trends like social media, cloud, big data, mobile devices, behavioural/ geo tracking, etc., have led to an explosion and proliferation of personal data within, and beyond, corporate and national borders. Charlie covered recent trends in cyber security and privacy and why these topics are a key concern for all organisations today.

National Gallery of Victoria – Wednesday 22nd April
An exclusive and private ‘behind the scenes presentation’ at the NGV’s Conservation Centre which houses some of the world’s most precious pieces of art.
Arrival dinner – Wednesday 22nd April
Dinner at Bistro Guillaume celebrated the start of a comprehensive two-day program with peers.
Wine-tasting – Thursday 23rd April
Following Thursday’s program, AMSRO hosted its world class wine tasting session with International Food and Wine Association industry expert Yvonne Wallis, who each year, opens her cellar and leads us through a selection of fine wines from Australia and overseas.
Official dinner – Thursday 23rd April
In keeping with tradition, a sumptuous dinner topped off a full day, with this year’s dining experience at Melbourne’s iconic Vue De Monde where AMSRO industry founders, Stephen Jenke, Graham Chant, Rob McLachlan and Yvonne Wallis treated delegates to an informative and entertaining recount about AMSRO’s origins and events.
